VIA Epia PX – Pico-ITX motherboard

While Intel is about to “take over” the Mini-ITX standard, VIA is already preparing the release of Pico-ITX motherboards. This standard implies even smaller board dimensions – 100 x 72 mm versus 170 x 170 mm for Mini-ITX.

The first board in this series, called Epia PX, is based on the VIA C7 processor, clocked at 1 GHz and does not require active cooling. The chipset will be CX700M or VX700. Both of them include the functions of the north and south bridges in one chip, have an integrated graphics core VIA UniChrome Pro II, a DDR and DDR2 memory controller.

The CX700M is HDTV capable and includes an integrated VIA Vinyl HD Audio controller, while the less multimedia VX700 has more storage and USB ports. It is not yet clear whether VIA will choose one of the chipsets for Epia PX, or will release two modifications of the board.

Epia PX is focused on the consumer market and will find its application in media PCs, as well as in “constructors for enthusiasts”. Although it is possible to use the board in industrial embedded applications.

The manufacturer has not yet announced the price of the new item. According to preliminary forecasts, it will be approximately $ 250.
