Killer K1 NIC: Affordable “Network Accelerator” Version
In early autumn last year, Bigfoot Networks released the Killer M1 NIC 10/100 / 1000Mbps PCI Network Adapter, whose Flexible Network Architecture (FNA), according to the manufacturer, is designed to help gamers get the most out of the game, reduce latency and enable squeeze the maximum FPS out of the system in your favorite games.
Tests of the device showed that some benefit from its use in networked computer games is present, however, the price set for the “accelerator” at $ 250-280 hardly made the purchase justified.
Now Bigfoot Networks has released a cheaper version of the product – Killer K1 NIC. It differs from the flagship product in that it has a less powerful processor (333 versus 400 MHz), no flashy “K” -shaped heatsink and support for FNA. Let’s dwell on the last point in more detail. An external HDD or flash drive can be connected via the USB port on the network card, which stores FNA applications that Killer runs during its work. Thus, the delays of K1 in comparison with M1 should be slightly higher, due to the fact that such files are stored on a shared drive, to which several interfaces lead from the network card. However, for an additional fee, the manufacturer offers firmware version K1 with FNA support.
Killer K1 NIC Specifications:
- Device type: 10/100/1000 Ethernet / Fast-Ethernet Controller
- Integrated memory: 64MB DDR PC2100
- Integrated processor: 32 bit, 333 MHz
- IEEE: 802 compliant.3.802.3u, 802.3x, 802.3z
- Bus: 32 bit, PCI Rev 2.2
- Connectors: RJ-45, USB 2.0
- OS: Windows XP (.NET 1.1 for LagMeter), Windows Vista
- Power consumption: 5-10 W
The Killer K1 NIC will be priced at $ 150, which is $ 100 less than the Killer M1 NIC manufacturer’s target.
