Verbatim / MKM Ready to Deliver Dual Layer HD DVD-R Media to Overseas Markets
Verbatim and parent company Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (Verbatim / MKM) are ready to ship 30GB single sided dual layer HD DVD-R discs with write-once capability this quarter. So far we are talking about the largest among foreign markets – North American, where in the same quarter the appearance of equipment compatible with the mentioned disks is expected, but there is no doubt that European consumers will not have to wait long for new items. Recall that in Japan, dual-layer HD DVD-R discs appeared in July 2021.
Verbatim / MKM media are designed to record both computer data and programs, as well as high definition video. According to the manufacturer, one 30 GB disk is enough for 150 minutes of such video. Verbatim / MKM HD DVD-R discs support AACS (Advanced Access Content System) copy protection.
According to the manufacturer, in order to achieve “the best balance between reflection, transmission and absorption in two information layers”, MKM specialists had to create a new, highly sensitive material. It provides low error rates regardless of laser power fluctuations and disc surface conditions. Other features of the media are resistance to sunlight and heat. Discs are produced at MKM factory in Singapore.
