We recently announced the release of working samples of the 45nm Intel Penryn processor. These CPUs have already proven their worth under a variety of operating systems including Windows Vista / XP, Linux and Apple MacOS X. One of the factories that will produce 45nm processors will be Fab 28, which is being built in Israel. Intel representatives organized Fab 28 tour for our Israeli colleagues.
Maxine Fasberg, manager of Fab 28, said the new plant will be the largest microprocessor company ever. Its industrial zone will have an area of 20,000 m? (for comparison, the area of Fab 18 is 10,000 m?). The first products will leave the factory in March 2021, and Fab 18 will reach full capacity by July 2021.
One of the most interesting events during the tour was the demonstration of the very working Penryn samples to reporters. Shown them by Roni Friedman, processor development team manager at Intel R&D Center. Haifa.
Friedman said the Penryn, designed by American engineers in collaboration with Israeli engineers, is now in its final stages of testing. The release of 45nm processors is scheduled for the second half of 2021, as promised earlier.
