In general, we are more or less accustomed to the penetration of the most modern technologies into consumer electronics. However, sometimes surprising things happen here: for example, Metalink, despite the fact that the standard is still available only in the form of draft specifications, to which several hundred amendments are expected to be adopted, nevertheless decided to submit 802.11n WLANPlus chipset for integration into consumer electronics devices. And although, of course, you can be sure of the demand for the high bandwidth that the standard can provide in its current form, the issue of compatibility with third-party equipment, which is very important for the consumer electronics segment, has not yet been closed.
One way or another, but the main difference between the base logic chipset Metalink WLANPlus, according to the company in a press release, is that in addition to transferring data between computers, the chipset is designed to use the optional functionality of the 802.11n, designed for broadcasting high definition video data streams (HDTV) and is capable, for example, of providing simultaneous broadcasting of three MPEG2 HDTV streams of 60 Mbps each within a radius of 20 m. Which is supposed to be enough to cover an entire digital home.
The new generation of WLANPlus chipsets, like its predecessors, is planned to be integrated into home access points, digital TVs, HDTVs, table top boxes, digital video recorders and media servers.

Together with the new chipset, Metalink offers several options for reference designs of ready-made devices: in the form of embedded Mini PCI (type IIIB) cards, CardBus and home access nodes made in a separate housing.
