AMD 690 will be released in February, the first boards with HDMI + DVI-D

Reputable resource DigiTimes, known for its close relationship with Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers, reports that AMD will officially unveil the first chipset of its 690 series of chipsets for its Athlon processors later this month.

The flagship AMD 690G chipset should become the first solution available on the market, the main feature of which is the ability to implement DVI or HDMI digital video outputs with HDCP support on the motherboard. The integrated graphics core is based on the Radeon X700 (DirectX 9 Shader Model 2.0). As a south bridge, motherboard manufacturers are encouraged to use the SB600. You can read about the differences between cheaper versions of chipsets here. They should enter the market a little later.

The speed of the HyperTransport bus for such solutions is 2000/1600 MT / s (million transactions per second). Supports installation of up to four DDR2 800/667/533 MHz memory modules, including with or without ECC, up to 8 GB in total. The chipset also supports Serial ATA II, PCI Express x16 / x4 / x1, Gigabit Ethernet and Azalia HD audio codec.

PCSTATS got its hands on Biostar TA690G AM2 board, one of the first to be equipped with HDMI, DVI-D and D-Sub outputs. We present her photos. It is noteworthy that the manufacturer was so richly able to equip the solution with the mATX form factor – a new interesting solution for compact media centers is clearly appearing on the market.
