AOpen and Mitsubishi Develop WinXP Car PC
Most automakers in terms of integrating modern computer technology into their new products are limited to the introduction of a global positioning system (GPS), a wireless Bluetooth interface and support for playing files in MP3 format.
Where did Mitsubishi and AOpen go further in this regard?. Their CAR PC hides behind a 7-inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, a configuration that is quite relevant for a modern compact laptop:
- Processor: Intel Celeron M370, 1.5 GHz
- RAM: 512MB DDR2
- Hard Drive: 40 GB
- DVD drive
- GPS receiver SiRF Star III
- OS: Windows XP
Possible applications of this solution include reading e-mail, communicating via Skype using 3G networks, and much more.
CAR PC will be equipped with software that provides confident voice control of many of its functions.
The price of the solution was not disclosed, however, it is reported that it will be installed in the cars of Taiwanese manufacturers in the near future. Also, AOpen and Mitsubishi have plans to cooperate with American and Chinese companies in this industry.
