NVIDIA is preparing a chipset with integrated DirectX10-GPU

During the NVIDIA conference on Q3 2021 financial results, company representatives mentioned that NVIDIA is preparing new chipsets with integrated graphics for Intel processors. Today our colleagues managed to find out the details about the new chip, which is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2021.

The MCP73 graphics core is based on the GeForce 7300 and therefore supports Direct X 9.0c and Shader Model 3.0. Implemented HDMI and HDCP with H decoding capability.264 up to 720p (PureVideo technology). MCP73 is fully Vista Premium compliant.

According to the source, the MCP73 will support FSB frequencies up to 1066 MHz, include a Gigabit Ethernet adapter, HD audio codec, four SATA and one PATA interfaces, three PCI-Express x1 and 10 USB 2 ports.0.

In addition, it is reported about the MCP79 chipset, based on the MCP73, but with support for Direct X 10 (graphics core – GeForce 8) and capable of decoding H.264 video at 1080i. FSB frequency of MCP79 will be increased to 1333 MHz.

However, NVIDIA had to sacrifice something in order to keep the cost of the chipset at a competitive level – most likely, the MCP73 will have a single-channel memory controller, and a limited number of PCI-Express lanes will only allow PCI-Express x8. Thus, the future set of logic will compete not with Intel Bearlake in the mass market segment, but with VIA and SiS products in the budget segment.

It is reported that new chipsets will be manufactured at TSMC facilities using 80nm process technology. Moreover, according to the source, NVIDIA is in talks with TSMC on a trial release of 55nm MCP79 chips next year. If it is possible to achieve the release of samples with a low defect rate in the second half of 2021, then at the beginning of 2021, mass production of NVIDIA products using this technical process may begin.

We also add that NVIDIA is now the second chipset manufacturer after Intel. And in the AMD64 segment, according to Mercury Research, the company’s share reached 61% (based on the results of the third quarter).
