Fujifilm’s budget cameras raise the bar

The A-series in the FinePix family traditionally includes the simplest cameras. The FinePix A800 and FinePix A610 presented today by Fujifilm cannot be called entry-level devices. This is especially true of the “older” FinePix A800, equipped with an 8.3-megapixel SuperCCD HR sensor of 1 / 1.6 format (!) inch. A similar sensor is installed in the much more expensive “ultra-compact” FinePix F40fd, announced today, but in contrast to it, in the FinePix A800 the maximum sensitivity is limited to 800 units by ISO.

The FinePix A610’s sensor is more modest: 1 / 2.5-inch 6.3 megapixel, but also SuperCCD HR. The maximum value of the equivalent sensitivity – ISO 400.

The new items, like the FinePix F40fd, please with the emerging possibility of using not only relatively expensive xD-Picture memory cards, but also cheap SD cards loved by many. Savvy users will surely appreciate this very unexpected, but very necessary step of the company towards customers.

Traditionally for the A-series, new cameras are powered by two AA cells. Users may be disappointed only by the video mode. Apparently, purely for marketing reasons, the resolution of videos is limited to 320×240 pixels, which today looks more than modest.

But the prices promise to be extremely modest: $ 180 for the FinePix A800 and only $ 130 for the FinePix A610. Deliveries of new products will begin at the end of February.
