Spansion unveils 65nm MirrorBit ORNAND

A joint venture between AMD and Fujitsu, Spansion Corp., whose financial results for the last quarter were not very encouraging, however, continues to move forward and has begun to provide trial samples of 65nm MirrorBit ORNAND flash memory optimized for storage in wireless multimedia devices ( primarily in phones and communicators). 65nm flash is expected to be available in mass quantities early in the third fiscal quarter of 2021.

The 65nm MirrorBit ORNAND family of flash memory chips will be available in 512 Mbit, 1 Gbit and 2 Gbit densities (previously planned for 128 Mbit to 2 Gbit, but throughout visibility, densities of 128 and 256 Mbit were considered not very profitable for mass production, given the increased needs of modern and future devices). New chips will be pin-to-pin and software compatible with 90nm MirrorBit ORNAND products.

In the future, Spansion is going to switch to a no more subtle technological process – in mid-2021, the company plans to master the production of 45-nm MirrorBit microcircuits (MirrorBit is a technology that allows recording two data bits in one cell) at the new SP1 plant. The same plant, along with Fab 25, will mass-produce MirrorBit ORNAND flash memory at 65nm standards.
