Rainbow Technologies: WatchGuard’s New Firebox X Edge

Rainbow Technologies Announces New Software Release for Firebox X Edge e-Series, Enabling Full Integrated UTM Device Functionality for Network Security.

The latest version of Firebox X Edge e-Series software, in both wired and wireless devices, includes new features to provide small businesses and remote offices with an easily accessible network protection against hacker attacks, viruses, spam, spyware and other threats.

Firebox X Edge e-Series appliances for enterprises with 1 to 50 users now support gateway antivirus, intrusion prevention, spam blocking, and advanced URL filtering. These features have been added to its proactive Application Layer Firewall with VPN building capabilities. The new Firebox X Edge e-Series fully retains an intuitive web interface that allows quick configuration without additional configuration of all the network protections necessary for small businesses, which favorably sets these devices apart from similar ones.

The new Firebox X Edge e-Series has the following features:

  • Firewall – provides network protection at the gateway by applying security policies, preventing unauthorized users from accessing internal networks or computers;
  • SpamBlocker – filters email traffic, preventing the penetration of spam;
  • Gateway Anti-Virus / Anti-Spyware Intrusion Prevention System – scans network traffic for viruses, spyware, prevents unauthorized network intrusion attempts, etc.d.;
  • WebBlocker – blocks access to web resources from a constantly updated list of dangerous and inappropriate sites, protects against performance degradation, slowdown of connections, Internet fraudsters, and even liability for the use of illegal content;
  • Zero day protection – Proactively closes potential vulnerabilities without using signatures before malicious code such as a virus or worm is launched. This feature provides better protection than standalone signature-based antivirus;
  • VPN – allows remote authorized users to securely access the network while at home, in another office or on a business trip.

WatchGuard also offers Firebox X Edge e-Series customers a free 90-day subscription to the LiveSecurity Service (LSS), which provides the user with software updates, technical support, and expert newsletters on how to prevent new security threats.

Highly configurable traffic management and Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee prioritization of bandwidth-critical traffic. This is important as small businesses are increasingly using bandwidth-dependent technologies such as VoIP or POS technology. In these cases, the QoS capabilities ensure that the audio quality during the call will not deteriorate or the processing of data from the credit card will not stop due to the activity of other network users.

While the Firebox X Edge e-Series is aimed at small businesses and remote offices, it also provides advanced networking capabilities typically designed to support large enterprises, including IPSec tunnels for dial-up connections, 1-to-1 NAT, dynamic NAT, PAT , and support for multiple external IP. To reduce downtime due to network outages, the Firebox X Edge e-Series also provides the ability to configure multi-WAN support including the ability to quickly switch the WAN port when there is no ISP connection. In addition, innovations in the Firebox X Edge e-Series include scalable transparent proxy filters that inspect traffic at the application layer, preventing network threats with protocol anomaly analysis and pattern matching.

Firebox X Edge e-Series appliances are fully integrated with WatchGuard System Manager for flexible, centralized management of multi-appliance environments. Each Firebox X Edge e-Series can be upgraded to any higher model in the range by simply entering a license key, allowing the organization to adapt and expand to meet growing business needs.
