Quad FX Processors and Boards Come Retail. Prices are not encouraging

On November 30 of last year, AMD unveiled its dual-processor platform for enthusiasts, called Quad FX, promising immediate availability on sale of both the processors themselves and the motherboards for them. However, until recently, these items were listed only as available for pre-order in online stores.

Real prices can cause some disappointment among those who want to order components for assembling such a powerful PC: processors cost $ 25-50 more than the recommended level, and the only corresponding motherboard made by ASUS is $ 30-80 more expensive.

Here is a comparison table of what was promised and what is currently available (online stores Newegg and ZipZoomFly):

Naturally, neither AMD nor ASUS control retail prices, but the prospect of overpaying $ 129-181 (in the USA, we will have even more) pleases little. The first of the companies officially confirmed that it did not raise its selling prices for processors, there is no answer from ASUS yet.
