Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone
Finished. What many dreamed about, in which many almost did not believe, still happened today: Apple released the iPhone. Before the name of the device, it is not even necessary to write “mobile phone” – perhaps, there is not a single representative of the community of fans of Apple products left who does not know what is at stake.
Steve Jobs demonstrated the novelty for over an hour at the Moscone Center (San Francisco, California), where the Macworld Conference & Expo exhibition opened today. Needless to say, after so many years of waiting, after whole series of rumors and unconfirmed information, Apple should have presented something outstanding. And the company did not disappoint: the new product is not only revolutionary for Apple, but also has rich equipment and enviable functionality.
Jobs Introduces iPhone as 3-in-1 – Full-Screen iPod, Smartphone, and Internet Communicator. In fact, everything turned out to be even more serious: the iPhone is a computer running OS X (!), controlled using a touch-sensitive screen (with a finger, not a stylus – this is, according to the company, much more convenient) 3.5 inches and a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, equipped with a full set of wireless interfaces (GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz, EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11b / g, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR), 2MP built-in camera and 4GB or 8GB flash memory. IPhone dimensions 115 x 61 x 11.6 mm, weight – 135 g.
The device has a wide range of software that allows you to watch videos, listen to music, browse the web using the Safari browser, etc. During the presentation of the device, Jobs showed how to work with Google Map services (apparently, the device is equipped with a GPS receiver) and Yahoo Mail.
More detailed information about the new product can be obtained on the corresponding page of the Apple website, as well as in the article that will be published on iXBT.com a little later.
In the US, the iPhone will be serviced by AT&T Cingular and will be available at AT&T Cingular stores and in Apple stores from June this year. In Europe, the novelty will debut in the fourth quarter of this year, in Asia – in 2021.
IPhone in the US (when signed with Cingular for a two-year service contract) – $ 499 for the 4GB version and $ 599 for the 8GB version.
