Hagiwara Sys-Com: Another ReadyBoost Flash Drive

We’ve already reported on ReadyBoost flash drives coming with Microsoft Vista. Hagiwara Sys-Com recently announced a similar certification for its new product. The 8GB ExpressCard / 34 drive reportedly delivers 32Mbps read and 22Mbps write speeds.

However, it is worth clarifying that ReadyBoost uses FAT32 to store the cache file, which means that its size is limited to 4 GB. That is, if you buy an 8-GB drive solely to speed up system boot, then you simply lose half of the capacity. As for the “difficulty” of obtaining this certificate, it is worth looking at the minimum requirements for ReadyBoost:

  • Average write speed – 1.75 MB / s
  • Average read speed – 2.5 MB / s
  • Volume – at least 256 MB

As you understand, you can stick the ReadyBoost label on almost any modern flash keychain, so you shouldn’t pay too much attention to the fact of formal certification of the device you like, it’s better to take a look at its technical characteristics.

Hagiwara Sys-Com ExpressCard / 34 FlashMemory 8 GB price is approximately $ 450. But, perhaps, by spending this money on the purchase of additional RAM modules, you will achieve a greater increase in PC performance?
