Meizu M8: the “killer” iPhone comes from China
Apple iPhone can, without risking a mistake, be called the most sensational electronic device of the current year. Newspapers and radio stations, far from the computer industry, write about him. IPod owners, and even those who have never owned one, are determined to buy an iPhone shortly after it hits the market.
Meanwhile, less eminent manufacturers are preparing their similar devices, which are designed to seriously compete with the iPhone. You can easily recall, at least, the fruit of the joint efforts of LG and the Prada design house. Another competitor for the eminent “American” seems to be found in China. The local company Meizu is preparing its M8 communicator, which, it seems, will not be inferior in design or functionality to the iPhone.
We invite readers to evaluate the differences in appearance on their own, but we will focus on the hardware characteristics.
The Meizu product has a slightly smaller display (3.3 versus 3.5 inches), but with a higher resolution (720 x 480 versus 320 x 480 pixels). To help the ARM11 processor during video playback, a hardware codec will also come, providing viewing of VGA-clips at 30 frames per second. Video, by the way, can be displayed on a TV, for which the device has a TV-out output.
As a camera, Meizu M8 also looks preferable – cameras in 3 and 0.3 megapixels versus two megapixel in Apple’s solution.
In terms of communication capabilities, the products can be considered equal – the presence of support for the original Chinese standard TD-SCMA in addition to GSM in the M8 is unlikely to be in demand in other regions.
Chinese iPhone twin will run WinCE 6.0.
It is not yet clear what the ROM size of the Chinese communicator will be. Recall – the Apple product will have 4 or 8 GB of internal flash memory.
The only significant drawback of the M8 is the lack of a wireless Wi-Fi interface (802.11b / g) present in the iPhone.
With all the above differences, the dimensions of the Meizu solution are 105 x 57 x 11.5 mm versus 115 x 61 x 11.6 mm for the competitor.
Of course, all of the above in no way describes the convenience of robots and the quantity and quality of accompanying services that are always inherent in Apple products, however, judging by the dry numbers, at least one more solution should appear on the market that can compete with the iPhone.
