AMD confirms RS690 will come as 690G. Future products logo

The British resource The Register claims to have got its hands on AMD documents confirming the fact that the 690G will become the official name of the system logic sets previously developed by ATI under the codename RS690.

The source says the chipset will be released in two versions, aimed at mobile and desktop PCs. Both will be marketed under the name 690G.

Recall that this set of system logic will have perhaps the most productive among integrated solutions, a graphics core based on a Radeon X700 chip with support for DirectX 9 Shader Model 2.0. Chipset supports HDCP protection and allows motherboard manufacturers to provide full HDMI output. It will serve as the basis for motherboards for Athlon Socket AM2 processors.

AMD draws parallels in functionality and price with Intel G965 Express and claims that its solution will win not only in functionality, but also in price.

Regarding when the long-awaited AMD 690G will be released, we will provide information from VR-Zone. The Singapore site says that the official presentation of the chipset will take place on February 28.
