The market for graphics cards may calm down until March?

According to DigiTimes, obtained by a resource from industry sources, it is quite possible that we will not see new products in the field of graphics accelerators until the CeBIT exhibition in March.

The release of NVIDIA GeForce 8800 did not stir up the market, which is explained by the lack of available games with support for the latest DirectX 10 API. The demand for such accelerators is very low. In addition, there are concerns that the original version of Windows Vista will not support DX10. There is not enough software on which to test DirectX 10 graphics cards.

All these reasons lead the source to assume that the real turning point in the industry will come precisely at CeBIT, where NVIDIA, quite possibly, will present its accelerators based on the graphics G84 and G86, respectively, aimed at the entry and middle market segments. Card makers should receive the first samples of such GPUs no later than this quarter.

ATI’s official position on the release of R600-based products is rather vague. Not so long ago, the Level 505 website announced that an engineering sample of such an accelerator got to it, and even published the exact date of their launch on sale, January 22.

ATI, on the other hand, states that it has not even determined the release date of the R600 on the market at the moment, which may mean a much later date of its release.

DigiTimes Expects R600 Release Before CeBIT Will Force NVIDIA G84 And G86 Based Products Earlier March.

How it will actually be – we will find out soon.
