New wave of 65nm processors – already this month and other AMD plans

According to HKEPC, AMD will launch new 65nm processors on the market this month, single-core. Recall that the first AMD models manufactured using this technical process were four Athlon 64 X2, whose announcement took place on December 5 last year.

So, in the middle of January we are expecting the updated Athlon 64 3500+ and Athlon 64 3800+ (Lima core). They will have the same characteristics as their 90nm counterparts (2.2 and 2.4 GHz, respectively, 512 KB L2 cache), but the TDP level will decrease from 62 to 45 W (by 27.4%).

The real invasion of AMD 65nm processors will begin in the next quarter with 9 new models released:

  • Athlon 64 X2 5400+ (2.8 GHz, 2 х 512 KB L2, TDP 76 W)
  • Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (2.6 GHz, 2 x 512 KB L2, TDP 76 W)
  • Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2 GHz, 2 x 512 KB L2, TDP 35 W)
  • Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (2.1 GHz, 2 x 512 KB L2, TDP 35 W)
  • Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (2.0 GHz, 2 x 512 KB L2, TDP 35 W)
  • Athlon 64 4000+ (2.6 GHz, 512 KB L2, TDP 35 W)
  • Sempron 3400+ (2.0 GHz, 128 KB L2, TDP 35 W)
  • Sempron 3500+ (2.0 GHz, 256 KB L2, TDP 35 W)
  • Sempron 3800+ (2.2 GHz, 128 KB L2, TDP 45 W)

The so-called crossover (transfer of the bulk of the manufactured processors from the old technical process to the new one) from AMD is expected in the fourth quarter.
