A printer that prints without ink and fits in your phone or camera
ZINK Imaging has decided to finally “finish off” the owners of cell phones and other portable electronics. As soon as users had time to get used to the presence of cameras in literally every device, ZINK prepares a new surprise – a printer for cell phones, and not just any, but immediately – a color one. But first things first.
In the near future, the company expects to show the original printing technology that does not use ink, cartridges and ink ribbons. The patented development, which is included in the company’s exposition at the DEMO 07 conference, radically changes the concept of printing – the image on paper appears, as stated in the official press release, “without a single drop of ink”.
The answer is simple and lies in the special ZINK paper, for which a total of about 100 patents have already been obtained and are still expected. Dry crystals of the dye are embedded in the structure of the paper and are activated by the heat generated by the print head of the printer. Crystals are colored to form a “high quality, durable, stable and affordable image”.
Mobile Electronics Selected as First Application for New Technology. Later this year, ZINK Imaging partners will release the first products using it. They are expected to bring color printing to places where it was previously difficult to imagine – in pocket digital cameras and cell phones.
