SanDisk SSD Officially: Fastest Solid State Drive on the Market
Soon after unofficial information about SanDisk’s preparation of its flash drive, there was an official announcement.
This SSD (solid state drive) is made in a 1.8-inch form factor and has a volume of 32 GB. The manufacturer himself says that with the decrease in the cost of NAND flash, he decided to reconsider the focus of such products on corporate consumers, in particular in such areas as military, aerospace, telecommunications, towards the consumer segment.
Nevertheless, such solutions are unlikely to be completely available. SanDisk predicts that using such a drive in a laptop will increase the cost of the latter by about $ 600.
SanDisk’s proprietary TrueFFS technology brings SSD MTBFs up to 2 million hours.
The speed of continuous reading of the novelty, according to the manufacturer, is 62 Mb / s, which is higher than that of the Samsung counterparts currently available on the market (57 Mb / s) and Super Talent (17 Mb / s). The random read rate is 7K IOPS, which is about 100 times faster than current HDDs, SanDisk reports.
Booting Windows Vista Enterprise with such a drive will take 35 seconds (55 with a standard laptop hard drive), the average access time is 0.12 ms (19 ms).
The SanDisk SSD has a power consumption of 0.4W versus 1W for today’s more traditional solutions.
Shipments of drives to mobile PC manufacturers have already started.
