HKEPC has published new information on the first Intel processors to be manufactured using 45nm process technology.
In particular, it is argued that we will not see such dual-core processors this year. The only 45nm processor, which will be released in December 2021, should be a four-core Yorkfield, and the shipments will be extremely small. This will be the first of Intel processors with four cores in a single die. It has an architecture similar to that of the current 65nm Core processors. A significant difference (in addition to the technical process) is the introduction of support for the SSE4 instruction set and the increase in the L2 cache for Yorkfield to 12 MB (8 MB for the current Kentsfield). At the same time, the frequency of the system bus of the new products will remain the same as that of the current flagships of the line – 1066 MHz. The processor socket will not change either – LGA 775. Interestingly, it looks like Intel will return in these processors to HyperThreading technology, which it abandoned with the release of Core 2 Duo / Extreme.
