Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ6 and DMC-LZ7: budget cameras with 6x zoom lenses
It looks like Panasonic is trying to occupy absolutely every niche in the digital camera market. For those who cannot afford compact “ultrazoom” for $ 300-350, solutions with a 6x zoom lens are offered at a price of only $ 180-200. We are talking about two new products of the LZ series: the Lumix DMC-LZ6 and Lumix DMC-LZ7 models.
The overall dimensions of the cameras are 98.5×62.3×33.1 mm and the weight of 180 grams allows us to call them “pocket”. At the same time, the user gets a fully “stabilized” 6x zoom in the range of equivalent focal lengths of 37 – 222 mm. Moreover, the lens turned out to be relatively “bright”. Maximum aperture in the range shown is f / 2.8 – f / 4.5. An interesting feature: a separate (!) button.
Despite the numbers in the indices, both devices are equipped with identical CCD sensors with a resolution of 7.1 megapixels. The differences between the models lie in fact only in different LCD displays. The Lumix DMC-LZ7 has a screen size of 2.5 inches diagonally (resolution – 115K. pixels), and in the Lumix DMC-LZ6 – 2 inches diagonally (resolution – 86 thousand. pixels). By modern standards, the screens are frankly weak.
In comparison with its predecessors, the maximum value of the equivalent sensitivity has been increased to ISO 3200, support for SDHC memory cards has been added and the capabilities of video mode have been improved. Clips can now be recorded in “wide” resolution 848×480 pixels at 30 frames per second. The cameras also have a new image processor Venus Engine III.
The cost of the Lumix DMC-LZ6 and Lumix DMC-LZ7 cameras will be about $ 180 and $ 200, respectively.
