Statistics on the failure of power supplies from different manufacturers in 2021

Very interesting data was published by the French resource Hardware.fr. He received data from representatives of the largest online retailers of computer components in order to find out how reliable the power supplies sold under the leading brands are.

The study involved manufacturers whose products were sold in France since April 2021 in an amount of at least 500 pieces. For specific models, only those whose sales were at least 100 units were taken into account.

Here is how the statistics for returns of faulty products purchased during the specified period looks like:

  • Fortron: 0.7%
  • Hiper: 1.2%
  • Seasonic: 1.4%
  • Thermaltake: 1.6%
  • Tagan: 2.8%
  • Enermax: 3.0%
  • Antec: 9.5%

As you can see, only four manufacturers met an acceptable 2%, the rest were behind this conditional line. Antec owes its blatant claim to the highly unreliable SmartPower 2 family.0 power of 500, 350 and 400 W, in which the failure rate was 21.6%, 18.1% and 17.3%, respectively. At the same time, the best of the Antec blocks, Neo HE 430, also did not reach the 2% mark, stopping at 2.6%.

For various Fortron models, the failure rate ranges from 0% to 1.5%, for the Hiper – from 0.4% to 3.8%.

Thermaltake badly spoiled the picture with Silent Power 680 W. 6.6% of such blocks returned to sellers, the rest of the models are much more reliable. In terms of this indicator, Seasonic can recommend S12-600 – 0.9% of failures. Liberty EL620AWT stands out sharply in Enermax offers (5.1%).

Let’s make a reservation that, of course, we should not consider this study as the ultimate truth, however, it is hardly worth discounting this information when choosing a power supply.
