Transmeta-Intel case: turning the situation 180 degrees
About three months ago, a news spread across news feeds that the notorious Transmeta company accused Intel of illegal use of eleven of its patents in the development of Core 2 Duo, Core and Pentium processors.
Intel chose attack as its best defense, resulting in a counterclaim for the Transmeta Crusoe processor. Here the number of allegedly infringed patents is less – only seven.
Moreover, lawyers representing Intel insist on the termination of the proceedings in which their wards act as a defendant, referring to the fact that Transmeta received information, which it later patented, during the application process of Intel itself, that is, it simply appropriated to itself other people’s development.
If the success of the litigation was determined by the volume of manufactured and sold processors, then the winner in the proceedings could be named immediately. In fact, it is still impossible to predict how the process will end.
